| In 1978 an influx of federal funds designated for crossing signal improvements combined with the efforts of Missouri Operation Lifesaver--begun one year earlier--to create a significant decline in the number of grade crossing crashes. By looking at 1976 as the base year, one year prior to these combined safety initiatives, you can see a considerable drop in the number of crashes which often times result in fatalities. |
